Happy Tuesday! I’m a little upset with myself because I had an opportunity to get a LOT done, and…I didn’t. I kinda hurt myself on Thursday on the train and by the end of the day I was pretty much incapacitated. Old man stuff. I bent over to pick something up and I felt like I crushed a rib. On the way back after a full day, I pushed a door open on that side of the body and it felt much worse. So I took off Friday and thought “I’ll use this opportunity to do x, y, and z” and I did maybe 1/3 of x on Friday night. I was just too sore? Well, it didn’t get better. I felt out of it on Saturday and went to bed early, only to wake up at 3:30am on Sunday violently ill. Did I have the flu? I lost my voice, it was so bad, and of course that’s when the day job started calling me with an emergency. I could barely hold the phone to try to redirect anyone for help by text.
The “x” of x, y, & z is the “narrative comic featuring regular characters told in a semi daily comic strip format” and that involves trying a few things out. It ended up being harder than I hoped, yet I’m not surprised. It was part of the frustration of trying to get it off the ground by using what I think might be the right tools, mainly 11×17 comic pages divided up into 3 strips of 2-3 panels per strip. Right off the bat, I have to be precise with wording because of space, and that’s before I get to drawing the figures, which is the most important. That said, I can also figure out the dimensions and use my regular medium, and piece it together with TECHNOLOGY, but I want to give this a shot first and see how it goes before I have to adapt. You can fail and adapt. If it doesn’t look like it in my head despite my best efforts, I know I can still make it happen. Does that sound lazy? I’d rather have it look coherent then shoved into a format I find doesn’t fit what I was hoping to highlight the possibility. But, it’s been STARTED, that’s good. Right?
The 2nd panel borders lean and I left it as is because when it’s printed, it’ll be horizontal. Another thing about failing at trying something is that I tried to crosshatch the inside of the coffin, and it looked bad, so I took it out and instead you get pattern zipatone. I wanted to draw attention to the casket and the guy inside. OH, the other thing is that I had drawn in some buildings in the background of panel 2, using a gray pen. WELL, it didn’t take all that well after being scanned and the gray got eaten away by the select & delete for the background, so I nixed all of it. I don’t mind, I don’t think you’ll notice because it’s not there. I hope you enjoy this strip! There will be robro & maybe some baseball & princess robo doodles this week.
