Mal & Dee 7-3 Is Bowling Forbidden?

md 7-3

I’m debating how to do the next strip, which I drew before this one. It’s a full page strip, like 3 & 4 (which are a double spread!). I may break it up into 3 separate strips with the full thing on friday. Not fully sure. It’s a fun one, I hope!

I drew this and then winced at how mediocre the figures were. I’m going to struggle with being on-model for Mal & Dee, but I also have to liven it up with different angles & POVs. In the first version of this strip:
-panel 1 had Mal on our left facing that way with Garytron approaching him on the right.

-panel 2, they were in the same spaces, with Mal turned to face Garytron. You could not see what was on the pop up display. And this way it’s more obvious that that’s what that is.

-panel 3, Mal is walking away, to where? with the back of Garytron’s head in the foreground.

-panel 4, closeup of Garytron with an evil smile.

Okay, it sucked. Everything else about it was the same, except I had Garytron speak first here in panel 2 (a word balloon no-no, hopefully the dialog flows and you understand it). I wanted to show what Garytron might be up to, whatever that was, which is why there’s a split panel and he is seen walking into a building in panel 3. AND yeah, that’s a cheat where 3 & 4 are doubled up, but doubling up 2 over 3 or 1 over 2 to make the scene in 4 bigger would be a no no. I could have made them the same size, horizontal (2 layers of 2 panels), but this turned out pretty well…as in, “well, that’s better, I guess.” Actually I thought about the equal sized horizontal panels idea just NOW as I was typing, it’s too late. Plus, it will make more sense with Monday’s strip.

How about a recap for the week? I’d love to hear any feedback.
