Happy Tuesday! I wanted to get a Mort gag up before I work on Mal & Dee page 13. Hope you’re having a great summer!
My baseball recap for the first half up to the All Star break (and a week after) is that the Giants need to start batting better. Averages in the league are in the dumps, it’s like you’re Tony Gwynn if you’re at .275. I never heard about On Base or Slugging, or (my math nemesis) OPS. They gotta throw that pinball math at you because your heroes are batting .245 and they’re the star of your team. I exaggerate! I don’t know how I feel about getting Devers from the Red Sox, but I think the Red Sox also don’t exactly have faith in the package of players they got because they nixed one to the minors once they got him. Devers has been a non-factor. Pitching has been great. Justin Verlander is the unluckiest guy in baseball and some better batting should help him but at the same time, he should take a reliever role (yes, at that money) or, I dunno, retire. I can’t explain that signing, honestly. Giants desperate to add some names to say they were being competitive. Anyway, there’s still 2.5 months left, but also a week or so before the trade deadline, so please get it together.
Cubs are great. The Brewers are on a tear and (thankfully for the Giants) swept the Dodgers twice in a row.
Okay, love y’all. Bye!
